St Peter's Street, Islington
Designed for a period home on St Peter's Street, this kitchen balances craftsmanship with contemporary detailing, drawing inspiration from the architecture of the property itself. Oak cabinetry provides warmth and texture throughout the space, creating a timeless foundation for the design.
The island is defined by its curved reeded doors, a detail developed in response to the home's elegant curved windows. Echoing the soft geometry of these original architectural features creates a stronger connection between the kitchen and the wider house, allowing the joinery to feel naturally integrated within its surroundings. Unlacquered brass handles are inlaid into the cabinetry, allowing the metal to develop a natural patina over time and adding a subtle layer of character. A Gaggenau venting hob maintains the clean lines of the island by eliminating the need for an overhead extractor, helping the space remain open and connected.
Beyond the kitchen itself, bespoke joinery continues into the dining area with a display cabinet featuring matching reeded doors, creating a sense of continuity throughout the home. A dedicated breakfast larder provides practical everyday storage while allowing appliances and preparation areas to be concealed when not in use. The result is a kitchen that feels both highly functional and beautifully resolved, with every detail carefully integrated into the character of the house.
